W!WW!!!! (WOW! WHATTA WEEKEND!!!!)

I love weekends like this, full of activities and family time!

The kids and I spent most of the week in the water, either at Magic Springs, or the lake.  It’s been so hot though, that the lakes feel like warm bath water.

On Fridays Craig is off, which is a treat for us!  We went to Degray, to the Shouse Ford area (one of my favorite places to camp).  It was nice, but the water is way down, making the swim areas smaller (I found this to be true on Lake Ouachita  the week before).  But, we swam none-the-less!  And fished.  My poor pink fishing pole has seen lots of water and castings, and yet no fish.  :( Someday I’ll get my first fish!

Friday night we got some movies, Book of Ei, Pink Panther 2, and Missing Lynx.  The last one wasn’t anything to remember, but the kids loved it.  PP2 was funny, but predictable (very Steve Martinesque).  The Book of Eli was AWESOME.  Really awesome.  Not blu-ray worthy or anything, but the story was wonderful.  If we all took that dedication and purpose to our lives!  Wow, what a different place the world would be.

Saturday morning I think we bummed around, ran som errands and such.  We stopped at the Goodwill store, which is my favorite new place!  Talk about bargains!  We bought:

Mens suit jacket (made in Italy)

2 king pillow shams

king bedskirt

new with tags womans dress

2 pair mens athletic pants (nike and adidas)

queen bed sheet set

3 books

4 pieces of girls clothing

TOTAL:  $33.40

Not too shabby eh???  Try checking out your local Goodwill store, Savation Army, DAV, or whatever you have in your area!

Saturday afternoon I watched a beautiful bride walk down the aisle!  She’s one of my great friends, Anna.  It was a sweet touching ceremony, as Anna and Matt were marrie by Anna’s Mother.  I know the stress and pressure of a wedding, and I know that as they are laying on the beaches of Mexico, it was all worth it!

After the wedding, we ran home, changed and went to Magic Springs, a local amusement park.  I’ll do a review on it later, but it’s a pretty good deal for locals who buy season passes.  One the greaat benefits is the summer concerts they have on Saturday nights.  And since I pretty much work all Saturday nights, I never get to go.  This year they did have concerts during the week, but we never got to go to one.  So . . . this was my first concert at the amplitheater . . . and who was it?  Randy Travis!  An oldie but goodie!  It was great, and the boys’ first concert too.  He was funny and sounded awesome!

Of course, Sunday was another relaxing day, with a bit of school clothes shopping (only 18 more days!) and of course work  :(   But that’s ok, I’ve got all 4 kids all week.

Gotta take Coco to the vet for some shots, poor puppy . . . I still need to show you her!

Love Y’all!

Me

Soooo, what’s up with me?

Nothing.

The End.

Ok, ok.  I kid.  I start school today too!  I’m taking chemistry, ugh.  But it brings me closer to starting the RN-MSN program (Masters degree!) this January.   I’m excited!

Still not divorced, yeah, don’t ask.

Not dating, or going out much!   Just waiting for that someone special to be in my life!   Although I have a date with some awesome gals tonight for some wings, beer, and karoke!

What else?  I work, play Mommy, housekeeper, taxi driver, chef, and all that.  That’s my life in a nutshell!

I. Need. Shoes. Stat!!!

720_shoesOMG2

I have a massive urge to get a new pair of hot high heels!  If any of you want to help, I wear a size 9.5 (yeah, big feet).  I love crazy shoes!  Thanks!

I feel like in the last couple of weeks that I’ve calmed down.  I got that wild streak out of me that I’ve been doing for the last few months.  Don’t think I still don’t want to go out and have fun, cause, well if you KNOW me, I love having a blast and laughing.  But sometimes laying on your kitchen floor and laughing with your best friend is just even more fun that going out!

I know what I want in life, for my boys, for me personally as career goals, love life needs, and who I want to be, and what kind of person I want to be with.  And I won’t settle for less.  I deserve it.  I sure damn do.  And I’ll wait forever until I can get what I want!  (hello spoiled brat!)

My boys have been horrible lately.  I guess the divorce is effecting (affecting?) them, and they are showing out because of it.  I had Don put locks on my pantry door so they stop getting all the food out.  Yeah, like dumping a box of pancake mix, squeezing out all the jelly, eating all the cereal, etc .  They already cost me a bundle in groceries, but when I keep having to re-buy everything, then that adds up!

I really reached a low point this week with them, I had to call friends to come over and help, and thankfully they rushed right over (love ya Heather and Don!) to help.  I guess I’ll go to the book store and find a parenting/divorce book for some advice.  Do any of you have any advice?  I’ll take all that I can get!

Never found my stolen stuff, except the boating tube was in the field next to me, but that’s not mine, so I really don’t care about that.  I had someone come out and mow my yard, and it looks so much nicer.  I may have him come out and do the back and trim up some more stuff this week, since I don’t have the tools to do it now.  Although I did buy a weedeater!  And a drill!  LOL!

I really want to go see my family, I’m hoping they’ll meet me in Omaha or Witchita again, it makes it easier to drive 8 hours rather than 19!!!

Other than that, I’ve been doing ok.  Have had some dissappointments, but am keeping my head up and heart full of hope.  That’s all I can do.  :)

He got an A!  A 92/100 to be exact!  I told him that was excellent!

Sadly though, he got 3 color changes this week, making his conduct grade a 79    :(   UGH

Thoughts on the F

My friend Cilla and Susan left a few encouraging and thoughtful comments on THIS POST.  Both were very helpful.  I just wanted to comment on some of Susan’s great thoughts.  By the way, read her cool BLOG, of which I’m extremely jealous of, because she has MUSIC!  Oh and she lives in Colorado where I pulled a 7 year stunt there.

OK, The linked SUSAN IS NOT THE SAME SUSAN THAT MADE THIS POST! WHO KNEW I’D HAVE TWO SUSANS IN ONE DAY!  BUT I’LL LEAVE HER LINK UP THERE, CAUSE IT’S A GOOD SITE!

Here’s a copy and paste of her (flattering) post (with my comments in color):

I happened on to your website quite by accident. I am a mother of two boys and have been a tutor from 2nd grade (non-reader) to college algebra. I love the expression of a child who has succeededespecially one who has difficulty. Sometimes there are things that as parents or tutors that we don’t understand from a child’s perspective. I would love to give you some tips about the spelling and behavior.

Thanks for the blog compliments!  I’m not as talented or as funny as many others that are on my blogroll, but I do enjoy it.  A little background on Brennen:  He was speaking as a normal kid, but when he was 2.5 he stopped speaking and would use hand gestures for things he wanted (a finger in the mouth meant milk).  Hearing tests and such came back fine.  He started speech therapy through First Step (a state monitered intervention programs for all types of disabilities).  He attended for 2.5 years and learned a lot there.  He still goes to speech 2 or times a week, his big problem is not finishing his words.  “A tree fell on my house” turns out to be “A tre fe on my hou.”  Since I’m used to him, I don’t notice it (I guess I mentally fill in the words), but his teachers and speech therapist notice.

1) First set up a special time each day for homework. And set a specific amount of time for the work. For spelling in first grade I would say 10 minutes a day. Figure out the way he learns best. Buy magnetic letters, a small chalk board, colored markers and let him practice his words different ways. The last two nights before the test actually make him take a test just like he would in class. I have had kids who needed to write every thing down. I have other kids who needed to see everything.

Wow, really?  10 minutes?  I guess I’m overdoing it (writing 20 spelling words 5 times each daily).  The spelling test is a good idea, and I was going to use it today, but he “forgot” his word folder at school.  GRR.

2) Help him locate the words in magazines or books that he is reading.

Brilliant.

3) Encourage him each day. Something like “WOW you did such a good job spelling “boy”.

Now for the behavior. I have an early child – graduated high school at 16 and has a 4.0 in college. I can tell you a couple of times we had teachers say he was immature. In second grade a teacher realized that he was not immature but bored. The teacher worked out a system with him to do his work then he would get to do something that was actually more work but to him it was a bonus.

Congrats on having such a smart son!  I wish him luck in school!  Now that you mention it, I remember Mrs. R, his kindergarten teacher, saying that he wasn’t “bad” but he’s very sharing and likes to talk to people, and he was very loving.  He does read very well, last year he was in the top reading group in his class.  So maybe perhaps, he his bored?  That’s a good question to bring up in a few weeks at our parents/teachers conference.

I strongly recommend positive reinforcement for good behavior. Sit him down and let him know that you realize that it is sometimes just hard to not talk or get up from his seat in class. But because those are the rules he needs to respect them. If he has a message book where you get messages each day tell your son that each day that he comes home without a color change he can play his video game for 30 minutes. If he can go 3 days in a week without a color change do a small something special (ice cream cone, candy bar, new crayons, whatever makes him happy.)

He knows that if he gets more than 3 color changes in a week, he can’t play flag football, which stinks, since Dad is the Coach.  If he goes with 1 or 0 color changes, we make a trip to the zoo or someplace cool like that.  I could never homeschool (or tutor), as I get frustrated with him too easily, thinking that he should just ‘get it’, but I realize that his little mind is developing and it takes practice.

I tutored a little girl that was a second grader and she kept having behavior problems and the parent got permission for me to sit in on her class. The problem was that she was so excited about everything she just wanted to share. She wasn’t a bad child. If she got an answer to something she would look at the child next to her and say ” I got it the answer was 7 so it wasn’t so hard”. The teacher had no idea what she was talking about only that she was disrupting class.

One more thing. As a parent we see everything our child does as a reflection on us. So we take it personally. DON’T. Try to understand exactly what is going on. Why his color is changing. What time of day? Who does he sit beside? Is there a window close to where he sits?

It’s hard NOT to take it personally, since WE are suppose to be developing a functioning person!   But I know we must put our needs aside for them sometimes (thank God for TIVO).

Sorry I have written a book but I am very passionate about children and education. And although there are many great teachers sometimes the classrooms are so large that a teacher may not be able to pinpoint each individual child’s specific learning style and behavior triggers.

Thank you for all your help and thoughts.  I appreciate them anytime, as this is all new to me!  Your experience is far more than mine!  I bet you are a great teacher/tutor, and an even better Mother!  HUGS!

ok, ok, I’m slacking

No I haven’t posted in a while.  No I haven’t gone to the gym, and no I haven’t done my laundry.  Geesh, lay off it!  Oddly, I haven’t felt like blogging.  Not sure why, because I normally do enjoy it.

Brennen had his first flag football practice last night, it was cute.  Mike and his friends Daniel and Carlos are coaching the team.  It’ll be real interesting!

Zachary starts soccer on Saturday.  When I was in high school, we didn’t have soccer.  So when I moved to Colorado, I didn’t see the big deal.  But I guess it is a big deal now.  So we’ll try him out on it.  The bad thing is, Bren’s games are Saturday at 8 AM, and Zachary’s are Saturday at 9 AM!  So we’ll start out at the Middle school football practice field, and about 10 til, run up the road to the soccer field!  It’ll be hectic, especially since I will have just gotten off Saturday at 7AM after working my 3 12 hour shifts!

Saturday night we took the bike out.  It was fun, but gosh my ass hurts.  Mike is trying to convince me to get a bike, which I don’t mind, but he wants me to get a crotch rocket like his.  No thanks, I’d rather have a ‘normal’ bike!  It won’t be anytime soon.  We have too many payments as it is!  We also took the boat out Sunday night, nothing exciting there, except the water was cold after all the Gustav rain.

We have looked at a few houses.  Not that we are in a place to buy right now.  But the ones we looked at are NICE!  Brand new, gorgeous, CLEAN (lol), and out of our price range.  I don’t see how we would be able to afford those house payments.  Mike said his Realtor friend said our house appraises and WILL sell for about $20K more than we paid for it.  I don’t agree with that!  Anyways, if we DID put the house up for sale, it would require a ton of dump and purge of stuff in our house and a TON of cleaning and fixing things (like nicks and dents in the walls, thanks boys).  We’ll see what happen as time goes.  Mike’s Mom did buy a house in Louisiana, leaving us here with no family.  I do like living here, love the lake and area.  He doesn’t want to move to Colorado, because it’s too cold (duh), although I’d love to move to a small town like Windsor!  I really don’t think I want to live in Louisiana, nothing against Cajuns or anything, I just don’t.

eBay.  I have been buying and selling crap on eBay.  My big purchase (besides Mike’s body kit for his bike, which reminds me to get pictures) is a high grade/resolution scanner.  I plan on starting another blog, Six Degrees of Janet, which will have pictures that I have in a couple of boxes.  Tons of people in those pictures, from high school, church camps, youth rallies, etc.  Maybe you might find yourself in there!

Freecycle.  Speaking of dump and purge.  If you’ve never heard of freecycle, check out www.freecycle.org .  Find your local group and join.  It’s a great place (in most areas) to get rid of stuff, get stuff, and meet great community members.  I have gotten many thing off there for free, including a large dog kennel, boat bumpers, etc. I have also given away stuff (a fridge, toys, clothes, etc).  Try it!

The plan today.  OMG.  Laundry.  So much laundry.  I don’t know how we pile up so much laundry!  The next time I come into a chunk of money, I will be buying one of those large capacity washer and dryers.  No joke.  I needs it!

Bachelors.  Many of my friends have started their bachelor’s programs, or the pre-req’s for it.  I wanted to wait until Timmy gets a bit bigger.  But I don’t know.  I really have the pre-req’s done, except for Chemistry and maybe a history class.  I guess my 5 hours of Pilate’s don’t count.  Darn.  I’m wanting my Masters.  I haven’t decided if I want to teach (no money, but love it), or work for a Doc as and APN (don’t want to take call).  Who knows.  I guess I should start paying on my current student loans first, eh?

Ok, time to do the laundry.  Oh wait, the gym!  I haven’t been in a week,  those hurricane rains put me out for a bit.  I have been eating healthy and less, so that helps!

Ok, laundry.

How much is too much?

                                                 nurse3.jpg

Or rather, not enough?  Studying.  I hate it.  Does anyone really like it?  All day I have found other things to do.  I’ll sit, open my books, OH!  Laundry!  Switch out the laundry.  OH!  Dusting!  Over and over.  And now it’s evening, and minimal studying has been done.
